Design Challenge

Nestled on the Atlantic Beach shoreline in Jacksonville, Florida, Studio M Interior Design faced an intriguing challenge: breathing new life into an aging oceanfront home marred by years of inconsistent additions. As a leading interior designer, Marsha Faulkner was tasked with unifying the disparate elements of the home while maximizing its stunning ocean views and incorporating the clients’ formal furniture from their Washington DC/Arlington residence.

Our mission: Create a cohesive, functional space that honors the home’s coastal setting while accommodating the clients’ more traditional style. The project demanded innovative solutions to structural challenges and a delicate balance of formal and beach-inspired design elements.

Our Solution

Embracing our role, our team:

Collaborated closely with the architect to open up the East facade, replacing walls and tiny windows with expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Redesigned the floor plan to improve flow and functionality, creating logical adjacencies between spaces.
Designed a gourmet kitchen to cater to the client’s love of cooking, balancing functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Crafted a luxurious master suite with ample closet space and a beautiful bathroom – previously lacking amenities.
Carefully selected millwork, flooring, and wall finishes to create a cohesive backdrop that bridged the gap between formal DC style and relaxed beach living.
Incorporated the clients’ existing furniture and art collection, skillfully integrating these pieces into the new coastal context.
Paid meticulous attention to detail in space planning and design execution, ensuring a seamless transition from concept to reality.
Used a sophisticated color palette and materials that respect both the coastal setting and the clients’ more formal tastes.
