Design Challenge

Perched on a narrow, elevated oceanfront lot in Crescent Beach, Florida, Studio M Interior Design faced a unique challenge: harmonizing the diverse styles of a newly wedded couple while overcoming architectural constraints. As a leading coastal contemporary interior designer, Marsha Faulkner was tasked with seamlessly blending the husband’s love for lodge-style aesthetics with the wife’s preference for a softer, beachy ambiance.

Our mission: Create a cohesive, contemporary coastal home that maximizes the stunning ocean views and reflects the couple’s personalities, travels, and family history. The project demanded innovative solutions to spatial challenges and a delicate balance of contrasting design elements.

Our Solution

Embracing our role as a coastal contemporary interior designer, our team:

  1. Established thoughtful design guidelines for main areas, incorporating stained wood details, live-edge elements, and stone to satisfy the husband’s outdoor-inspired taste.
  2. Balanced these robust elements with lighter walls and fabrics, creating a softer, beach-inspired atmosphere that appealed to the wife’s preferences.
  3. Employed local artists to create custom pieces, including a cypress root bench for the foyer and a striking dolphin light fixture for the main staircase, setting the tone for the home’s unique style.
  4. Incorporated travel mementos, such as hand-painted stone tiles from Napa Valley, into functional spaces like the wine bar backsplash.
  5. Collaborated with a lighting artist to design a custom fixture for the master bath, enhancing the luxury feel while maintaining a personal touch.
  6. Thoughtfully integrated inherited furniture pieces from both families, honoring their histories within the new design.
  7. Installed innovative features like a “rock climbing” wall in the grandchildren’s room, leading to a built-in attic play area, adding an element of fun and adventure.
  8. Designed a contemporary kitchen featuring walnut-stained cabinetry, creating a warm, modern heart for the home.
  9. Crafted an exclusive luxury bath with oceanfront views, perfectly balancing indulgence with the natural beauty of the coastal setting.
